Kinds of Penguins

How They Are Alike and Different

There are seventeen (17) different kinds of penguins.  Only four kinds live in Antarctica: they are the Emperor, Adelie, Chinstrap, and Gentoo penguins.

The largest of the penguins is the Emperor penguin.  He can be up to 4 feet tall.  He lives in Antarctica.  The Emperor is the one we see pictures of most of the time.

The smallest is the Blue penguin - he lives in Australia and New Zealand.  He is only about 10 inches tall!  He has a special enemy - the stoat, a land animal like a weasel.

Can you guess how these  penguins get their names?

Rockhopper, Yellow-eyed Penguin, Macaroni Penguin, Galapagos Penguin, Blackfooted African Penguin ?
